Welcome

School Leadership

Dear Students, Parents, Staff, and Community Members,

Welcome to Eugene Field Elementary, proudly serving the south side of Poplar Bluff. Our school is home to hundreds of students and a dedicated staff committed to one simple but powerful mission: Building leaders one student at a time.

At Eugene Field, we believe every child has the potential to be a leader — in the classroom, in our community, and in life. We are a Professional Learning Community that goes the extra mile to provide academic and behavioral supports for every student. All students receive differentiated reading and math instruction tailored to their individual needs, and our Positive Behavior and Intervention Supports (PBIS) framework helps us recognize positive behavior, set consistent expectations, and support students with diverse social, emotional, and behavioral needs.

We are proud to be one of Missouri's Leader in Me schools, a program rooted in author Stephen Covey's "7 Habits of Highly Effective People." Through this initiative, every student has the opportunity to serve on leadership teams, set personal goals, and track their own growth in individualized data notebooks. Eugene Field has achieved Lighthouse School status — an honor held by fewer than 250 schools nationwide — a testament to the incredible work our students and staff do every day.

We believe families are essential partners in education. We invite and encourage parents to join us for our quarterly Parent Leadership Nights and our annual Leadership Day, where you can see firsthand how the leadership principles your children are learning are equipping them with skills that will serve them for life.

We are so glad you are part of the Eugene Field family!

About Our School

Nestled in a south-side Poplar Bluff neighborhood on Nickey Street, Eugene Field Elementary School has long been a cornerstone of the community, serving students in grades 1–3 as part of the Poplar Bluff School District. The school has built a strong reputation for academic excellence, ranking among the top 10% of all public elementary schools in Missouri and earning recognition as one of the state's eight Gold Star Schools — the highest state-level academic distinction awarded by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Eugene Field has embraced a culture of student leadership through the Leader in Me framework for over a decade, earning designation as a Lighthouse School since 2016. Through this program, students develop leadership skills, set personal and academic goals, and take an active role in the life of their school community.

Looking ahead, the district was recently awarded a $1.5 million FEMA grant to construct a tornado safe room on the Eugene Field campus. Designed to withstand an EF5 tornado with winds up to 250 mph, the facility will serve students and staff during the school day and will be open to the broader community during severe weather events outside of school hours.
